This is the “Bell & Howell Perpetua Electric Eye” movie camera. It is a standard 8mm, silent cine-camera manufactured and marketed by Bell & Howell in 1958.

The camera features a solid metal body which gives the camera a very heavy and robust feel. On the front of the camera is a Tri-lens array which features a normal, wide and telephoto lens. Like most consumer level cine-cameras from this era, this camera contains a spring driven mechanism and requires the user to wind the camera before shooting. The camera also features a built-in selenium cell (“Electric Eye”) which allows the camera to automatically adjust the aperture accordingly to the light conditions. An interesting thing to note about this feature is that it does not require and batteries; the selenium cell is simply powered by the available light.
