The Bell & Howell company, which was established in 1907, initially manufactured movie cameras. In 1948 they entered the still cameras market with the Foton camera. Bell & Howell continued to produce cameras until the 1970s.

This movie camera was commercialized in 1956. In 1953 la Bell & Howell produced the model “220”. Bell & Howell produced many models, descended from the “220”: they had the same structure, only the “number” of the model and some little details changed.
